The federal government has repealed the EPA’s 2009 Endangerment Finding, the scientific foundation, built over decades of research, that established greenhouse gases as a real danger to public health. Gone with it: emission limits on vehicles and other sources of pollution that have protected our air for more than a decade.

MCE, alongside Metropolitan Congregations United and represented by Great Rivers Environmental Law Center, has filed suit in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to ensure Missouri’s voice is heard in this historic legal battle. We are joined by many other organizations such as: American Lung Association, the American Public Health Association, and the Natural Resources Defense Council.

The law is clear. Once the EPA determines a pollutant endangers public health, the Clean Air Act requires regulation. That duty is not optional. This lawsuit seeks to ensure the EPA fulfills its duty to protect public health and welfare for the people it is meant to serve, based on science.

Missouri communities are already living with the consequences of climate change: extreme heat, stronger storms, and flash flooding. Residents deserve a voice in decisions that affect their health and future.

Legal fights like this one take time and resources to win, and we need your help to see this historic fight through. MCE has been Missouri’s voice for environmental accountability for over 50 years, but we are here because supporters like you make it possible.
