Intern with Missouri Coalition for the Environment this summer

Spend the summer with MCE and learn about the intersection of the environment, public health, and justice. We are a statewide environmental advocacy group working to empower citizens to make systemic changes in their communities to protect and defend the environment for the benefit of all. We collaborate with a variety of organizations to advance policy goals, pursue legal action, and raise awareness of environmental issues.

Interns will learn about issues such as water quality, local food, public lands, and climate change. They will see first-hand how decisions are made in government about our natural resources, how citizens can be part of the process, and the political and financial barriers that limit public engagement.

We are offering two paid high school internships this summer. Each intern will receive a $500 stipend. The dates of the internship are flexible but the intern is required to work 120 hours between June and August. The internship is open to students interested in all subject areas. The internships will likely be of most interest to students interested in science, natural resource management, public health, public policy, marketing, and communications. Possible projects include:

  • Compiling historical documents in preparation for the organization’s 50th anniversary

  • Researching stormwater issues in the City of St. Louis

  • Developing web content

  • Tracking environmental stories in local media across Missouri

  • Summarizing recent legislation in the Missouri General Assembly as it relates to the environment and public health

  • Assisting with outreach efforts at festivals and events and updating our website.

  • Highly motivated to learn and try new things

  • Reliable and punctual

  • Self-directed
