It is now Week 20 of MO Leg Session. View all of the bills MCE is watching in our bill tracker here.

We have included the link where you can submit testimony for each bill where we say “tell the committee members” and/or at the end of each bill description. We encourage you to submit testimony for any and all bills, as it is valuable to share your opinion and have it on record. We also have bills for which we need calls made to your elected officials! Details for those are below.

Bills With Possibility of Hearings This Week:

Energy

  • HB 2005: This bill is designed to make it more difficult for transmission lines that can bring Missourians renewable energy to be approved and constructed. Before the Public Service Commission (PSC) issues approval for construction of certain utility infrastructure, the utility corporation must provide PSC with a resolution of support passed by the county commission in each county through which the merchant line will operate. Also, in condemnation proceedings, just compensation for agricultural or horticultural land shall begin with 150% of fair market value for the most productive category of land and decrease by 5% for each category thereafter. In a condemnation proceeding for agricultural or horticultural land in which a court appoints three disinterested commissioners, the commissioners must be a county commissioner, a farmer who has been farming in the county for at least 10 years, and a state licensed or state-certified appraiser. Tell your state representative: This bill that stunts the growing possibilities and desire for renewable energy in Missouri should not have passed through the Missouri Legislature. Please do more to fight bills like this in the future.

Waste

  • HB 2485: This bill would allow for dangerous recycling practices that are far more likely to produce more greenhouse gasses than reusing the plastic material by “recycling” the plastic into more fossil fuels that would hurt the environment, showing that this bill doesn’t really support recycling. These recycling practices also release many other toxins that could damage the health of Missourians. Even if these toxic practices occur in Missouri, they should not be exempt from regulations, and this bill would allow these facilities to operate without a solid waste processing facility permit. Tell your state representative: Protect Missouri’s people and environment from the harmful effects of these “recycling” practices. Vote “no” on HB 2485!
