Support Farmers, Food System Workers, and Families During COVID-19
We at MCE believe that access to local, sustainable food is essential during these uncertain times.
Supporting our local food system helps farmers financially while feeding your family safe, reliable, environmentally-responsible food. You can help build a more resilient food system by participating in it, one bunch of kale at a time.
Of course, please take proper precautions to keep safe, and follow the CDC’s instructions about social distancing to the best of your abilities, especially if you are part of a high risk group.

Tell Your Senators to Co-Sponsor S.3655: The Farmers Feeding Families – Coronavirus Response Act!
Small and medium-scale farms across Missouri and the country are struggling during this global pandemic. Market changes have left farmers who typically sell into local and regional markets with limited to no options given that most restaurants are closed and many farmers markets are closed or operating at a decreased capacity. Meanwhile, families are struggling to feed themselves with layoffs reducing their household incomes and safety concerns for vulnerable family members when shopping in grocery stores. As Congress continues to work to help Americans through this crisis, we need to help local farms connect their products with families who need it most.
Please call Senator Blunt and Senator Hawley and ask them to co-sponsor S. 3655 – The Farmers Feeding Families – Coronavirus Response Act.
In order to bolster the ability of food banks and food assistance programs to meet the needs of the growing numbers of food insecure, while also providing much needed additional funding for purchases from small and medium farmers, the Farmers Feeding Families – Coronavirus Response Act would:
- Ensure money is set aside from federal funding for targeted purchases to buy food from producers who rely on local agricultural food marketing – such as farmers markets, farm-to-table restaurants and farm-to-school programs – but have seen those opportunities diminish due to COVID-19.
- Send additional funds directly to States so state agencies and their food-bank partners can directly and immediately replenish their food stocks to meet the increased demand rather than wait several months to receive donations through the federally administered program.
- Funding would allow States to respond quickly and support producers with surplus supplies, which are especially at risk for perishable foods at risk of going to waste.
