Missouri Legislature Facts & Info
The Missouri Legislature, also known as the General Assembly, is composed of a 34-member Senate and a 163-member House of Representatives. The General Assembly arguably has the most effect on our daily lives, including energy prices, water quality standards, healthy food access, public land, and so much more. The secretary of state is responsible for publishing all Missouri state regulations, including those pertaining to the environment. Those regulations are all contained in the Code of State Regulations (CSR), available online.
The legislative session runs January through mid-May each year. The Missouri Foundation for Health has a great fact sheet on the legislative process and how a bill becomes a law in our state.
