The floodplain is no place for radioactive wastes. For over 5 years an uncontrolled, underground fire has smoldered next to an estimated 48,000 tons of radioactive material illegally dumped in the Missouri River floodplain.

BREAKING NEWS
On November 19, 2015, bipartisan legislation was introduced in the United States Senate and House of Representatives by Senator Blunt, Senator McCaskill, Congresswoman Wagner, and Congressman Clay to legally transfer jurisdiction at West Lake to the Corps’ specialized Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP). The Corps is responsible for cleaning up our nation’s nuclear weapons legacy of radioactive contamination in populated areas like St. Louis.
MCE worked hard over the last three years to transfer jurisdiction of the radioactive West Lake Landfill to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers while our founding member, Kay Drey, has been pushing for this for over 20 years.  Today we celebrate! Tomorrow we begin planning on how to get the newly introduced legislation passed into law.

Time is NOT on our side. Make a donation to MCE today and help us move the needle on the Corps of Engineers at the West Lake Landfill!
